Product Classification from AEB offers intuitive wizards, reliable process management, and automated suggestions based on a learning algorithm to simplify how you classify your products. There is no easier way for you and your in-house customs experts to manage this key function of global trade.
Product Classification from AEB, with its transparent method of classifying products, provides an excellent foundation for working with national customs authorities. This helps you breathe easier when the auditors or customs authorities want to look at your books. The software also builds a bridge to your export controls by alerting you if the commodity code is listed in the mapping directory and thus subject to export controls. In addition, the system offers suggestions to help you identify possible export control numbers.
You have at least three options for finding the right commodity code:
You can use the convenient search function in Product Classification to search by keyword, then choose the right suggestion from the search results.
Alternatively, you can use automated product classification with its learning algorithm, which compares new products with existing products, then uses matching attributes to identify and suggest the appropriate commodity code and export control number.
Or you can use the custom rulebase, which offers product classification suggestions tailored to your company.
Product Classification from AEB is at your side throughout the world, letting you choose the appropriate customs tariffs from those of 150 countries thanks to content provided by Mendel Verlag, an AEB partner. The commodity codes and goods descriptions are automatically imported into Product Classification and regularly updated – covering precisely those jurisdictions that you need.
The EU updates the (eight-digit) Combined Nomenclature codes at least once a year, and the (six-digit) Harmonized System codes, which apply worldwide, are updated every five years. Some jurisdictions also make changes between these intervals. This results in changes to customs tariff codes and presents your company with the sometimes monumental task of checking whether any changes to your own product master are necessary.
Unless you’re using Product Classification with the AEB data service. A simple click is all it takes to update the commodity codes with any recent changes. If the software finds multiple options for replacing obsolete commodity codes, a list of possible candidates is displayed.
Want to connect Product Classification to your current ERP system? No problem. Modern APIs make it easy to integrate seamlessly into your IT environment – at the very point where it makes sense in the process: close to the material master data. For SAP systems, we also provide you with ready-to-use connectors that let you manage your master data in either ECC 6.0 or S/4HANA environments.
Product Classification lets you manage your company’s entire product master – at all locations around the world – from one central location. This allows you to draw upon different national customs tariffs, easily and efficiently allocating commodity codes and export control numbers for multiple jurisdictions in a single step or through a two-step release process. This can also be done in a batch process. The result is consistently high quality – in every country where you operate.

Product Classification lets you first assign the export/import commodity code and the export control number. As a second step, you can check materials and either release them individually or multiple materials simultaneously.
No, you don’t need to restart the classification process each year. Product Classification has a fully automatic smart annual update feature to reassign all the unambiguous new commodity codes for the next year. A preview feature lets you check the classification, of course. In the case of unambiguous replacements, you are already prompted with the commodity codes in question and only need to select them.
No. You can also use Product Classification without connecting to a host system (such as an ERP system). The automatic exchange of data between Product Classification and your host system is advantageous, but of course you also have the option of using a CSV file to import the data into the host system and process it there before exporting it back to Product Classification.
