Streamlining the product classification process with AEB software

AEB's Product Classification software now offers powerful enhancements to further optimize the complex process of assigning customs codes to product master data.

AEB's Product Classification software has always been an effective tool, supporting the customs and product departments of businesses in the manufacturing and commercial sectors with the classification of their materials.

The new version of AEB's Classification (4.0) now offers a solution that is even more efficient, convenient, and flexible. The product relies on data catalogs that supply the numerical codes used to classify products.

The software from AEB offers content for more than 150 countries that includes nomenclature, customs tariffs, import duties, and additional measures. For many countries, export control lists are also available – for example, the Commerce Control List of the Bureau of Industry and Security in the US Department of Commerce. The user subscribes to this content, which is conveniently updated through a nightly data service.

The new version offers new flexibility for customers who work with just a limited number of numerical codes: In addition to or in lieu of the catalogs supplied by the data service, they can now use their own customized catalogs that they define and manage on their own through CSV file imports/exports.

The automated process for calculating classification suggestions guarantees greater efficiency. Before, you had to wait until the nightly learning batch had run. Now it’s possible to get suggestions for new materials much more quickly.

Other benefits:

  • Numerical code adjustment feature (end-of-year functionality) directly in AEB's Classification
  • Less reliance on database during data service import
  • Improved handling of catalog and material languages that differ from the login language
  • Option to define default start-up catalog at user level
  • Separate release status for each material classification
  • Invalid classification values identified
  • Option to duplicate classification settings

Product Classification users can put aside any worries about the year-end reform of the Harmonized System, which affects the first six digits of the commodity code. The AEB solution will support the amendments. If you are not yet using AEB's Classification and wish to learn more about the automated update of affected commodity codes and other benefits of the AEB solution, we’ll be happy to provide more information.

Important for SAP® customers who use ATC :: Classification 4.0:

Changes made to data in AEB's Classification are immediately synchronized with SAP® through the SAP® plug-in. New features are also available to customers using ATC :: Classification 3.0: The material monitor for commodity codes has been enhanced to include filters for Valid from, CC changed on, and Country of plant. There are also now two separate fields to distinguish when the material was changed and when the material’s commodity code was changed. The Material monitor for ECCN application is now available to help you manage the ECCN.
