UK imports & exports: HMRC announces changes to contact options

Fewer HMRC advisers are now available to answer calls from businesses due to the measures against the spread of Coronavirus. Traders have various options.

UK import and export queries in Coronavirus times? HMRC contacts.

UK's HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) has published new opening hours and a several new contact channels. These are available for UK businesses to get in contact and address questions regarding the following topics: 

  • Importing
  • Exporting
  • Customs relief

The reason for this change is based on the measures to stop the spread of Coronavirus, which has resulted in fewer HMRC advisers available to answer calls. 

Phone line opening hours

HMRC expert availability by phone has temporarily been limited to:

  • Monday to Friday: 8am to 4pm
  • Telephone: 0300 200 3700
  • Textphone: 0300 200 3719

If the query is not urgent, traders are asked to address their request via web chat.

You can complete an online form to submit your query about import, export or customs relief directly to HMRC:

Import and export queries by post

You can also send a letter to HMRC to address your questions about import, export, and customs relief. Please ensure to include your VAT registration number and the name and postal address of your business. Posting should be done to the following address:
