A team of scientists at the Fraunhofer Institute in Dresden have developed a method to control food crop disease organically by using electron beams for treatment of food seeds. AEB collaborates with the Fraunhofer Institute on a range of electron beam technologies and applications.
Harmful pathogens can be introduced to a crop planted with contaminated seeds. To improve crop safety, many traditional methods utilize chemicals sterilants for bio reduction. Electron beams apply a low amount of energy directly to the surface of the seed, allowing processors to elminate the use of chemicals. Fraunhofer will be presenting on their work at the parts2clean conference next week.
